NU coach Jarin warns: UST's record is deceptive

MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) coach Jamike Jarin anticipated a tough game against University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Wednesday, and he got it.

The Growling Tigers gave the Bulldogs all they can handle, and even led 78-77 with seven minutes left. Reggie Basibas was virtually unstoppable in the first three quarters, before NU ramped up its intensity on defense and pounced on UST's bevy of turnovers.

The Bulldogs ultimately claimed a 94-84 win, but the game was much closer than the final score indicated – and Jarin was well aware that his squad had just dodged a bullet.

"Coming into the game, I really felt that it was going to be a hard one, because UST is down 0-2 coming into this game," he said after their victory, their second of the season. "So we knew that coach Boy Sablan and the rest of his coaching staff, together with his boys, we knew they would come out slugging and play their best."

Jarin's prediction came true – he believes that the Tigers' performance against them was their best so far of the season.
