No Grand Slam, as Ginebra eliminates San Miguel
Justin Brownlee scored 37 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, as Barangay Ginebra drubbed San Miguel Beer 104-84 to advance to the semifinals of the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.
The loss dashed the Beermen's bid for a Grand Slam.
Ginebra put some distance between it and San Miguel in the second quarter, limiting the Beermen to only 9 points to take a 45-32 lead at halftime.
But it was in the fourth when Ginebra went nuclear, going up by as many as 30 points against 3-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and his crew.
“I’m just relieved. They’re such a well-coach team,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said.
“We caught them on a bad night, and it was a good night for us.”
