Meralco downs Romeo-less GlobalPort, ties Ginebra atop standings
Allen Durham tallied a triple-double, as Meralco downed GlobalPort 100-93 in the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Friday.
Chris Newsome scored a game-high 28 points for Meralco, which raised its record to 8-2 to tie Barangay Ginebra atop the standings.
It was close until early in the third quarter when Durham, Newsome and Chris Hodge engineered a 30-15 run to put Meralco up 83-64, with the lead ballooning to as many as 24 points.
Durham finished with 22 points, 22 rebounds and 10 assists.
Newsome also had 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 3-pointers, while playing nearly 39 turnover-less minutes.
GlobalPort, which played without an American reinforcement after Jamal Thomas didn't meet the height requirement, exited the tournament with a 3-8 record.
