Early surge keys Meralco's win over Star
Allen Durham finished with 29 points and 27 rebounds, as Meralco used a strong first quarter to defeat Star 96-90 in the PBA Governors' Cup at Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna on Saturday.
Fueled by Garvo Lanete's 8 points, Meralco went on a 21-5 run to end the first quarter then led by double digits most of the way afterward.
Midway through the fourth, Star came within 80-74, but Meralco scored 7 unanswered points to extinguish the Hotshots' comeback bid.
All Meralco starters scored in double figures, with Chris Newsome contributing 17 points and 7 assists.
Durham also had 7 assists and 4 blocks for the Bolts, who raised their record to 6-2 for solo third place behind Barangay Ginebra and NLEX.
