Donaire looks to hit career reset button in San Antonio bout
Nonito Donaire Jr. will make his fresh start toward another title campaign when he takes on a younger and relatively unknown fighter in Ruben Garcia Hernandez in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday. (Sunday, Manila time).
The “Filipino Flash” will once again campaign as a featherweight, where he once held the WBA title, in a weekend bout he’s expected to win.
Donaire easily made weight for the bout at 125.5 pounds, while Hernandez came in at 126 pounds.
The last time Donaire fought was when he lost the world super-bantamweight crown to Jessie Magdaleno in Las Vegas last November.
Now he’s with a new promotional outfit, Ringstar Sports, Donaire (37-4) said he’s excited to begin "the second half" of his career.
"It’s going to be an amazing ride and everyone is going to see great fights. You know I’ll get in there with anybody," Donaire said in a report on ABS-CBN Sports.
