Chasing top seed, San Miguel fights off scrappy Phoenix

Their places in the standings suggested a stroll in the park for San Miguel Beer.

But Phoenix was in mood to be some mere garden attraction.

Terrence Watson scored 26 points, including 2 baskets that broke a tie late, as San Miguel defeated stubborn Phoenix 109-107 in the PBA Governors' Cup at Ynares Center in Antipolo on Wednesday.

After a sluggish start, San Miguel took over the game in the second quarter.

The Beermen kept Phoenix at a safe distance, until the Fuel Masters knotted the score at 100-all on two free throws by Brandon Brown with 2:25 on the game clock.

But Watson's buckets down low, both heavily guarded, put San Miguel ahead 104-100 1:46 to go.
