Boxing trainer praises Melindo's grit
“El Metodico” Milan Melindo’s will and determination against challenger Hekkie Budler showed his true worth as a world champion, boxing trainer Edito “ALA” Villamor said.
Melindo bravely fought on despite sustaining nasty cuts near his eyes to retain the IBF junior flyweight crown over the weekend at a packed Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu.
Villamor said the whole team couldn’t help but worry after seeing their fighter getting cut due to accidental clash of heads midway the 12-rounder.
“Kasi malaking epekto sa paningin ‘pag may cut ka lalo na kung malaki. Sagabal 'yan sa focus sa laban,” explained the trainer.
But the Cagayan de Oro fighter stuck to their game plan by timing the pesky South African with body shots and straights to the head.
