Why PH's Kayla Richardson won't defend her 100m crown
KUALA LUMPUR – Reigning Southeast Asian Games sprint queen Kayla Richardson has opted not to run in the 100 meters when the athletics competition of the 29th SEA Games gets going on Tuesday at KL Sports City here.
Instead, the 17-year-old Richardson will focus on the 200-meter and the relay events, saying she is more comfortable in those competitions.
"I don't really want to say that I am giving it up," Richardson said of the 100-m crown. "But this is not the event that I have been training for."
"I will also be running in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays," added Richardson, now a freshman at University of Southern California.
