Semis 'wars' erupt

BALIPURE is showing its readiness to wage war with Creamline as Alyssa Valdez returns after a three-game absence today in the PVL Open Conference semifinals opener at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

”Oo naman. Never naman namin iniisip na hindi siya maglalaro,” said Water Defenders coach Roger Gorayeb on the eve of the 4 p.m. match.

LVPI acting president Peter Cayco said that Valdez, who just got back from a 17-day Japan training camp for two major international tournaments, will play for  the Cool Smashers, ending speculations regarding her status for the rest of the conference.

Despite missing the services of Valdez last two contests, Creamline was able to sweep the single-round eliminations, making BaliPure as heavy underdogs in the best-of-three semis series.

The other Final Four clash pits defending champion Pocari Sweat and surprising Philippine Air Force at 6 p.m.

Game 2 is set tomorrow at the same San Juan venue, while the deciding match, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday next week.

With the back-to-back set this weekend, all the teams’ endurance and stamina will be truly tested, especially for Valdez, who will juggle time between her club and national team from now on.
