PH's Clarice Patrimonio takes home singles silver in tennis
KUALA LUMPUR — An admittedly nervous Clarice Patrimonio was outclassed by Thai top seed Luksika Kumkhum, 6-0, 6-1, in the tennis tournament's women's singles final in the Southeast Asian Games at National Tennis Centre here on Saturday.
After a two-hour rain delay, Kumkhum — once ranked No. 85 in the world — needed only 48 minutes to dispatch Patrimonio at center court to seize gold.
"I will try to do better in the 2019 SEA Games," added the unseeded Patrimonio, 23, who advanced to the finals after vanquishing Cambodian fourth seed Andrea Ka, 7-6 (6-5), 7-6 (6-5), in the semifinals Friday.
It was her first individual silver medal in three SEA Games outings after sharing the women's team silver in the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.
