PH gets 24th gold from pencak silat
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- (UPDATED) Rookie Dines Dumaan delivered the Philippines' 24th gold medal of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games with a dominant showing in the pencak silat competition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center here.
The 22-year-old Dumaan routed Firman of Indonesia via a takedown, 4-1, in the finals to rule the 45-50kg division of the men's tanding putra Class A.
Mastafa Fitri Masjuri of Malaysia and Muhammad Ridhwan Selamat of Singapore settled for the bronze medal.
"A takedown is (worth) three points, and Dumaan was also able to score points with his punches," explained team manager Inies Candor.
Dumaan, a native of the Panitan town in Capiz, joined the national pencak silat team just over a year ago but came through in his maiden SEA Games appearance to deliver the country's first pencak silat gold since 2005.
