Nambatac’s 31-point outburst pushes Letran to second straight win
MANILA -- For two years now, Colegio de San Juan de Letran has been Rey Nambatac’s team.
The graduating guard proved that once again on Thursday inside their own gym in Intramuros, Manila.
Dropping a season-high 31 points, Nambatac showed the way for the Knights in their 92-78 conquest of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB), which eventually ended as their first winning streak in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The scoring southpaw was on-point from start to finish to go along with 11 rebounds and five assists.
“Si Rey naman, never mawawala para sa amin yan,” head coach Jeff Napa said of his prized ward who was at the forefront of their ascent to 3-3.
Of course, Nambatac was there when his team needed him the most and fired seven points in the 11-0 rush that broke open a tied game at 66-all into a 77-66 advantage inside the last seven minutes in favor of the home team.
