For Romeo, huge loss to Ginebra all part of learning process
MANILA, Philippines – After his team suffered a blowout loss at the hands of defending champion Barangay Ginebra, GlobalPort guard Terrence Romeo vowed to use the experience as a lesson rather than dwell on it too much.
The Batang Pier managed to hang around for a quarter, trailing by just one point, 28-29, at the end of the opening frame. But they had no answer for LA Tenorio and Greg Slaughter the rest of the way, as Ginebra rolled to a 124-108 victory.
Romeo, who scored 25 points but needed 24 shots to do so, believes that their defense was the problem on Sunday night.
"Doon kami pinaka-nagkulang," he said. "Depensa talaga ang pinaka-factor ng game, kasi sa offense, kahit papaano, may mga time na kaya namin maka-iskor."
"Pero 'pag nagkaka-run sila, as in tuloy-tuloy 'yung run nila. Hindi kami maka-stop," he rued.
Indeed, GlobalPort shot a respectable 43% from the field, but Ginebra converted 54% of their own shots. Moreover, the Batang Pier could not defend without fouling, and they allowed the Gin Kings a whopping 31 free throws.
