Close friends off court, Gilas cadets work double-time to develop on-court chemistry

MANILA, Philippines – There is no doubting the close friendship among the members of the men's national basketball team that the Philippines is sending to the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

After all, players like Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, Kevin Ferrer, and Von Pessumal are all part of the same "class," and have played with or against each other for most of their basketball lives.

"We've played with each other since 2008, since high school. Mike Tolomia, Ray, Kevin… actually, kung titingnan mo, si Kobe (Paras) lang talaga 'yung pinaka-nalayo sa amin, kasi nag-States siya," Ravena shared.

"So off the court, wala kaming problema," he said. "Kilala niyo naman kaming lahat – alam niyo kung ano 'yung mga pinagsamahan namin, through all the battles and through the games that we've played with and against each other."

Ravena is now counting on their friendship off the court to help them develop their chemistry inside the court, given that they only have a short period of time to prepare for the Southeast Asian Games.
