Clijsters tips Kerber and Konta to move through US Open draw
The US Open is just days away - and three-time titlist Kim Clijsters has tipped defending champion Angelique Kerber to do well at Flushing Meadows.
The former World No.1 may have had a disappointing year so far - but the Belgian thinks she has the footwork to take her deep into the draw.
"You need to be a good mover, first of all," Clijsters said in an interview with SportsKeeda. "You need to have quick feet, push off, push back. That's a big important point for players to be able to do that.
"Who I think has that - of course, Angie Kerber, she's a great mover out there, Johanna Konta, she's a great mover. There's a lot of girls who love playing on hard court and feel more comfortable than let's say on a clay court or a grass court."
Clijsters says that the absence of Serena Williams, on maternity leave, will give a confidence boost to plenty of players.
"Serena's still not around so it'll be another one like Wimbledon, where a lot of players will believe in their chances," she said. "Maria [Sharapova] will be back, which will be interesting to see. She's very motivated to try and do well."
