Cignal routs Marinero anew, books D-League finals ticket
MANILA, Philippines – With Raymar Jose controlling the paint and their three-point attempts finding their mark, Cignal HD cruised past Marinerong Pilipino once more, 87-64, to sweep its best-of-3 semifinals series on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Building on its 86-67 Game 1, the Hawkeyes booked their ticket to the finals of the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup – making it the second consecutive conference that they made it all the way to the championship round.
Jose, the hardworking forward from Far Eastern University, was a force inside the paint for the Hawkeyes as he posted 24 points and 11 rebounds in a reserve role.
Cignal also connected on 11 of its 31 attempts from beyond the arc, as the trio of Pamboy Raymundo, Byron Villarias, and Jonathan Uyloan had a field day from rainbow country.
Raymundo made four of his seven triples and finished with 18 points, four assists, and three rebounds, while Villarias had three three-pointers to wound up with 16 points. Uyloan, on loan from the Meralco Bolts, unloaded 15 markers built on four three-pointers.
