CEU ends Flying V's perfect season, forces do-or-die game
MANILA, Philippines – Centro Escolar University (CEU) kept is season alive on Tuesday, and in the process, dashed Flying V's hopes for a perfect campaign.
Playing with their backs against the wall, the Scorpions handed the Thunder their first loss of the tournament, 93-72, to force a winner-take-all showdown for the last finals berth in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
With their defense in sync, the Scorpions silenced the Thunder in the final five minutes and 15 seconds of the opening quarter, turning a slim 12-14 deficit into a commanding 31-14 lead at the end of the opening frame.
They kept their foot on the gas throughout the second period and took a 23-point lead, 58-35, at the half.
Rod Ebondo was again a force to be reckoned with, tallying 18 points, 26 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Art Aquino went a perfect 7-of-7 from the field for 18 points and seven boards, while Christian Uri had 15 points and four rebounds in the win.
