Centeno rallies to stun Amit for 2nd straight SEA Games gold
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Chezka Centeno secured her second straight Southeast Asian Games gold in stunning fashion, rallying past veteran teammate Rubilen Amit in the finals of the women's 9-ball singles on Sunday afternoon at KLCC's Hall 4.
With gold and silver already secured for the Philippines, Amit and Centeno engaged in a see-saw battle that saw the younger cue artist rally from a 0-3 deficit and again at 2-5 to take a 6-5 advantage.
But Amit was able to recover, tying it at 6-6 before nearly clearing up the final rack.
In an unexpected twist, however, disaster struck for Amit as she scratched with just two balls left, giving Centeno the opening she needed to clean up the final two balls.
"Hindi ko po inakala," Centeno said after her hard-earned 7-6 win. "Akala ko po talaga talo na ako."
