Abueva helped off the court after apparent injury
Already struggling to find his rhythm in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, Calvin Abueva suffered another setback on Sunday evening, as he had to be carried off the court by his teammates in the second quarter of their game against Qatar.
With some two minutes to go in the first half, Abueva slipped under the Gilas basket and was unable to make it back down on defense. Referees had to call a timeout as "The Beast" held on to his left ankle, grimacing in pain.
He eventually had to be helped off the court by Roger Pogoy and Carl Bryan Cruz. At that point, he had two points, five rebounds, and three assists in 12 minutes of action.
Jutt Sulit, who is embedded with the team in Beirut, Lebanon, reported that Abueva may have "stretched his Achilles." Though Abueva said he was okay to return to the game, Gilas coach Chot Reyes opted not to field him back in.
