Venus one win from becoming No.1 in The Race
LONDON, Great Britain - Venus Williams will arrive at the All England Club on Saturday with plenty to play for as she takes on GarbiƱe Muguruza for the 2017 Wimbledon title. Not only is the American gunning for her sixth Venus Rosewater Dish, but she can also ascent to No.1 on the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard with less than 100 Days Out from the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
Venus currently rounds out the Top 8 on the current leaderboard after a run to the Australian Open final and impressive results at the Miami Open and Internazionali BNL d'Italia, where she reached the semifinals and quarterfinals, respectively.
Muguruza can't soar quite as high if she takes home a first Wimbledon crown, but the 2016 French Open champion has already cracked the Top 8 on Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard by virtue of reaching the final, and can rise as high as No.3 by beating Venus on Saturday.
The former World No.2 made her WTA Finals debut back in 2015 one to remember, rolling into the semifinals after an undefeated stint in round robin play, and is hoping to book a third straight appearance in Singapore - fourth if you include doubles with countrywoman Carla SuƔrez Navarro.
Venus' vanquished semifinal opponent at Wimbledon was Johanna Konta, who narrowly missed out on qualifying for the WTA Finals last fall. Konta thrilled her home crowd by earning a career-best result at the All England Club, and is guaranteed to stay in the Top 8 at the conclusion of the fortnight - at No.6 if Muguruza wins, and No.5 if Venus is the champion.
