Top seed Sevastova safe into Bucharest round 2
BUCHAREST, Romania – No.1 seed Anastasija Sevastova kept things neat and tidy at the BRD Bucharest Open on Tuesday, needing just 59 minutes to move into the second round over Jana Cepelova.
Sevastova and the other seeded players advanced with few problems, with No.6 seed Sorana Cirstea being the only seeded player to fall on Day 2.
The Latvian won 74% of points behind her first serve and saved both of the only two break points she faced to seal the comfortable 6-2, 6-0 victory in just under an hour.
Joining her in Round 2, No.3 seed Julia Goerges needed to mount a comeback over American Alexa Glatch, recovering from a set down to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. No.5 seed Elise Mertens had a simpler road, taking down Quirine Lemoine 6-2, 6-3, while No.8 seed Tatjana Maria defeated Lesley Kerkhove 6-1, 6-2.
Also in action, Danka Kovinic battled past Polish qualifier Magdalena Frech 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Their match clocked in at two hours and 50 minutes long, the longest match of the day. Pauline Parmentier advanced past Arantxa Rus 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
