Standhardinger honored with FIBA inclusion, mum on PBA plans
After playing his first tournament donning the Gilas Pilipinas colors, Fil-German Christian Standhardinger was surprised to learn he would be playing once more in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup and 2017 SEA Games.
“I didn’t know about it like a day before the announcement. I was surprised and it was an honor. Every tournament that I play for the Philippines is an honor,” said Standhardinger. “It is a great honor because it means that the coach likes what he sees and I’m going to keep working hard to help the team as much as possible.”
His addition to the final lineup for FIBA was mainly due to Andray Blatche’s withdrawal due to security reasons. Standhardinger is aware that filling in the shoes of Blatche will be huge and that it will all boil down to a team effort.
“I don’t think there will be a lot of expectations for me but for the team. Andray is a great player and a piece of the puzzle for the team. I’ll try to do and play my best.”
The Jones Cup was huge for Standardinger. He learned more about his teammates and are things that he would surely carry on to the FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut.
“I think, we just learned how to play together really well and I think we improved a lot. The biggest lesson is to make sure you get out there and give your best no matter how many games you have behind you. I think we adjusted and that is a great thing.”
