Phoenix coasts to victory in Governor's Cup opener
Eugene Phelps fired 33 points to help Phoenix pick up a 118-105 win over Kia in the PBA Governors' Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
Phelps also gathered 14 rebounds, aside from swatting 3 shots.
JC Intal came off the bench with 19 points, while RJ Jazul added 18 markers for a Fuel Masters team that is missing the services of Gilas Pilipinas forward Matthew Wright.
The Fuel Masters led for most part of the game before breaking away in the 4th canto where they led by as much as 15 points.
Markeith Cummings led the way for Picanto with 31 points, while Bong Galanza contributed 15 points.
It was payback of sorts for Phoenix, whose Commissioner’s Cup campaign was affected by its loss to Kia (then known as Mahindra) on its way to the quarterfinals.
