PH boys bow out of FIBA 3x3 with loss in quarterfinals
The Philippines' campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup ended in the quarterfinals with a sorry 14-18 loss to Belgium on Sunday afternoon in Chengdu, China.
It marked the first time that the Filipino youngsters made it to the quarterfinals of the World Cup, but the trip proved short as they could not sustain a fast start.
Encho Serrano, AJ Edu, and Juan Gomez de Liano had the Filipinos up 4-1 early, but Belgium worked their way back, thanks to their outside shooting.
Turnovers then hounded the Filipinos, with both Gomez de Liano and Serrano finding their passes intercepted that helped Belgium keep them at bay.
Nevertheless, it was still the best showing for the young Filipinos in the history of the tournament. They were also the only Asian team to make it to the quarterfinals of the event.
Also joining Serrano, Edu, and Gomez de Liano in the team was Rhayyan Amsali.
