Misfiring Gilas falls short against South Korea
Twenty-five misses from long distance usually equate to a blowout loss, but Gilas Pilipinas fought through a cold shooting night to keep things close late before suffering an 83-72 loss to South Korea in the Jones Cup at Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall on Wednesday.
Even though the Philippines had problems finding the basket from behind the arc, coach Chot Reyes' squad was only down 73-69 with 2:12 left in the game.
That's when Reyes and co. could've used a triple or two to complete the comeback.
Instead, Gilas missed 5 more times inside the 2-minute mark, its fight-back falling short. Overall, the Philippines made only 1 of 26 3-pointers.
Gilas fell to 3-2, a full game behind co-leaders Canada, Lithuania and South Korea, which hold a 4-1 record.
Mike Myers finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Christian Standhardinger added 18 points.
