Meralco wins Finals rematch against Ginebra
MANILA -- (UPDATED) The Meralco Bolts continued to roll to start the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup, taking a convincing 93-78 victory over the defending champion Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel Sunday at the Big Dome.
Meralco's rousing win was the team's first over the Gin Kings since Game 3 of the 2016 Governors' Cup Finals, a series that the Ginebra eventually took in six games.
Down by as many as 11 in the first half, the Bolts turned things around in the second to deal Ginebra an early 0-1 deficit.
Meralco dropped a 12-0 run to take a 56-46 advantage in the third and it was all Bolts from then on. The lead eventually reached as high as 19 points before Meralco cruised to victory.
"I'm very happy with our effort tonight especially on the defensive end. We played good defense the entire game," head coach Norman Black said.
"In the second half we played much better offensively, moved the ball better, started to make some shots," he added.
