Meralco uses strong start to crush Blackwater
Baser Amer scored 20 points in an all-around game, while Allen Durham added 18 points and 21 rebounds in his return to Meralco as the Bolts won handily 107-78 over Blackwater in the PBA Governor's Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
The only time Blackwater held the lead was at 2-0, then Meralco went on a 30-6 run to close out the 1st quarter 32-15.
Meralco was ahead by as many as 39, 95-56, en route to its 1st of the tournament.
"That was exactly the type of start we were hoping for going into the conference," Meralco coach Norman Black said.
"We played pretty well in our last 2 exhibition games against Alaska and Globalport and we're hoping we could carry that over to our game against Blackwater.
"We came out very strong defensively, we were able to pick up a lot of stops in the first quarter."
