Kevin Alas, NLEX off to winning start in Governor's Cup

Aaron Fuller scored 30 points and pulled down 20 rebounds, including a follow-up dunk with 90 seconds remaining that helped NLEX secure a 112-104 over Alaska in the PBA Governor's Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Finishing last in the two previous conferences, NLEX has a chance to finish what has been a forgettable season so far on a positive note.

The Road Warriors' victory over the Aces was a step in that direction.

“This is a validation of our preparations, our hard work. Pero there's nothing to celebrate at this point yet, kakaumpisa pa lang,” said NLEX coach Yeng Guiao. “The real measure I guess would be after the 11 games that we play, where we are at that point.”

Tied at 94-all in the 4th quarter, 3-pointers by JR Quiñahan and Juami Tiongson keyed a 13-4 run capped by Fuller's flush off a miss by Kevin Alas that helped NLEX notch its 1st win of the tournament.

Alas finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for NLEX, which kept its poise when the game got tight in the 4th, something Guiao rarely saw in past games.
