Jerry Yee clarifies situation with UP Lady Maroons

MANILA, Philippines – Jerry Yee is still calling the shots for the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, but he is unsure as to how long he can remain in his position.

The coach clarified his status with the UP women's volleyball team on Wednesday, after posting – then deleting – on Facebook last weekend that he intends to leave the Lady Maroons. Yee has coached UP for four years, culminating in a Final 4 stint in Season 78.

"I wanted to (resign), pero ayaw pa ni dean (Ronualdo Dizer of the UP College of Human Kinetics) eh, so sila na lang ang bahala," Yee said on Wednesday, following UP's four-set loss to BanKo-Perlas in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference.

"Kakapagod lang. May mga issues beyond our control," he explained. "So ganoon, (I'm) tired. I wanted to leave, pero I got a call from the dean, and then nag-usap kami ng players."

Yee said that he agreed to stay for now, but could not say for certain if he will even make it to the UAAP season.

"Ang status ko, I'm working with the team, we're trying to focus, and hopefully, we play better sa UAAP, mabalik natin ng Top 4, and podium kung pwede," he said. "'Yun lang, 'yun ang focus natin."
