Even without Alyssa, Creamline sweeps Power Smashers
MANILA, Philippines -- In its first game without skipper Alyssa Valdez, Creamline leaned on its depth and teamwork to take down the Power Smashers in straight sets in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
Three players scored in double-digits for Creamline in their 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 victory over the Power Smashers on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The victory gave Creamline a 5-0 record, and ensured their spot in the semifinals of the conference.
It was an impressive victory for the Cool Smashers, who were competing without Valdez. The former Ateneo de Manila University superstar is currently in Japan together with the Philippine national team for a training camp.
"It's our first time na wala si Alyssa, so sa umpisa talaga, you're looking for your firepower," said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro. "But along the way, nakikita na kung ano 'yung meron. As you can see naman, everybody delivered."
Pau Soriano finished with 15 points -- including the final five points of the match -- while Rose Vargas contributed the same number to go along with 11 digs and 14 excellent receptions. Coleen Bravo had 13 points including three kill blocks.
