Eugene Phelps' clutch basket lifts Phoenix past Alaska
Eugene Phelps sank a teardrop shot in the dying seconds to help Phoenix secure a 95-93 victory over Alaska in a thrilling PBA Governor's Cup game at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
The game was tied at 93-all with 21 seconds to go when Phelps ran past Noy Baclao and evaded the outstreched arms of LaDontae Henton with a clutch floater that gave the Fuel Masters their second straight win.
Phelps finished with 29 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists.
“They showed heart in the crucial break down the stretch. We have to credit Alaska, they really make us play better,” said Phoenix coach Ariel Vanguardia.
The Aces dictated the tempo for most of the first half, employing a running game in taking a 13-point lead, 43-30, midway through the second quarter.
Phoenix made adjustments and slowed down Alaska to take the lead in the second half.
