Eric Kelly says move to lightweight a new beginning
Filipino MMA veteran Eric Kelly said his move to the lightweight division is the start of a new phase in his career since he has fought mostly as a featherweight.
Kelly fought 15 times in the featherweight division but he decided to venture into new territory, as he faces Japanese MMA legend Kotetsu “No Face” Boku in the undercard of ONE: Kings & Conquerors at The Venetian Macao in China next week.
“It’s a new beginning for me. It’s somehow a permanent move since this is my walking weight. We have to abide by the weigh-in rules of the company. I am comfortable with the weight,” Kelly said.
“I am excited to be in this new journey. I hope everything will turn out great for me as a lightweight.”
Having lost his last 2 featherweight bouts, Kelly wants to pick up a statement victory over Boku in his maiden assignment as a lightweight.
“It's been a year since the last time that I fought. I am looking forward to put on a great performance for my beloved country. I have been training hard and going through strategies. I hope to give my 110% inside the ONE Championship cage in Macao. I am coming to win,” he said.
