Cabagnot counts his blessings after earning Finals MVP trophy

MANILA – San Miguel guard Alex Cabagnot could only count his blessings after being named as the Finals MVP of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Cabagnot was simply superb in San Miguel's six-game conquest of the TNT KaTropa, averaging 20.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.3 steals in the series.

He was at his best in Game 6, when the Beermen closed out the KaTropa in epic fashion. The "Crunchman" made sure there was no need for any clutch time heroics as he came up with a triple-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, in the process leading SMB to a dominant 115-91 victory.

"I'm glad that God blessed us with this championship," said Cabagnot after the victory, which gave San Miguel its first Commissioner's Cup title since 2000.

Cabagnot was instrumental in San Miguel's late first quarter run that turned a two-point lead into a 37-26 advantage, assisting on buckets by Charles Rhodes and Arwind Cabagnot. He expertly ran SMB's pick-and-roll game all throughout the contest, torturing the TNT defenders with his pinpoint passes to cutters and making them pay by splashing jumpers as well.

Yet Cabagnot later said that remained wary of TNT, even as their lead grew and grew in the second half.
