After hot start, Gilas stumbles against Lithuania
Gilas Pilipinas couldn't keep up with Lithuania's firepower, losing 91-80 in the Jones Cup at Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall on Friday.
Kiefer Ravena and American reinforcement Mike Myers each scored 14 points to lead the Philippines, which fell to 4-3 in the standings.
To finish in the top 3 and win a medal, Coach Chot Reyes and his squad need to sweep their remaining games — against India on Saturday and Iran on Sunday — and hope South Korea loses twice more.
Lithuania, which tied Canada atop the standings with a 6-1 record, was dominant on both ends of the floor against the Philippines.
The Lithuanians shot better from 3-point range (38.9% on 14-of-36 shooting, compared to the Philippines 30.4 on 7-of-23 attempts). They also had more rebounds (32-23) and assists (19-8).
The Philippines started hot, taking a 22-17 lead after the 1st quarter, but Lithuania awoke in the 2nd quarter.
