This time, Marcio Lassiter makes sure it counts

MANILA, Philippines – There was never any doubt in Marcio Lassiter's mind that he can make a step-back, double-clutch, banked three-pointer to win a game for San Miguel Beer. The question was if he could make it count.

In April 2016, Lassiter memorably hit an insane shot against Rain or Shine in Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals, banking in a triple from the left wing, which would have given SMB a 99-96 win and tied their best-of-five series at one game apiece.

Unfortunately for the Beermen, Lassiter's shot was just a shade too late. Replays showed that the ball was still in his hands when the clock hit zero. Rain or Shine survived to take a 98-96 win and a 2-0 series lead, and went on to win the title in that conference.

The shot that did not count was one of the things that flitted through Lassiter's mind after his equally insane three-pointer against the Star Hotshots in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup more than a year later.

"Last year, I also had a buzzer-beater," Lassiter reminded everyone after Wednesday night's game. "So, you know, this is not like a fluke shot."

It was no fluke, but the level of difficulty was still remarkable. With SMB down 108-110 in the final 13 seconds, Chris Ross missed a floater, but import Charles Rhodes was there to tip the ball over to Lassiter on the wing.
