Svitolina under injury cloud ahead of Wimbledon

BIRMINGHAM, Great Britain - Heading into the grass court season on the heels of a career year, Elina Svitolina admitted to feeling less than 100% physically ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

"Of course, I'm disappointed I'm out of the tournament, but not disappointed about my performance," she said after a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 loss to Camila Giorgi, "because I couldn't really show even like 50 percent of what I can do. I was late all the time with my feet, so that's why I didn't give myself any opportunity to manage the point. I still have pain."

Elina Svitolina revealed her Wimbledon campaign could be in doubt following a foot injury that contributed to her second round loss at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
The Ukrainian youngster came within one point of the French Open semifinals two weeks ago, falling to eventual finalist Simona Halep. A junior Wimbledon runner-up in 2012, she tried to remain optimistic of returning to the All England Club.

"I think I will have one week preparation for Wimbledon. But for me, I don't want to endanger the end of the season. So that's why it's very tough to think about Wimbledon.

"It feels very painful on the foot because I need to walk, you know, sometimes," she added with a laugh. "All the time I stand up on the feet, it's painful."

Svitolina is currently at a career-high ranking of No.5 and briefly led the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard following title runs at the Taiwan Open, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.
