SMB's Cabagnot, Ross bat for shared BPC honors
MANILA, Philippines – If Chris Ross and Alex Cabagnot had their way, they would end up sharing the Best Player of the Conference award at the end of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
The San Miguel teammates were neck-and-neck at the end of the elimination round, with both Ross and Cabagnot tallying 34.125 statistical points. Since then, they have conspired to lead the Beermen to a 2-1 lead over the TNT KaTropa in the best-of-seven Finals.
Both Ross and Cabagnot already made it clear that the BPC race will not get in the way of their pursuit of the Commissioner's Cup title, and doubled-down on that sentiment by saying that they would prefer to share the award.
"We want to get co-BPC," Ross told reporters ahead of the finals. "If it's possible, we should get co-BPC."
"I don't know if there's ever been two teammates tied in the statistical points at No. 1, but it would be cool if we get co-BPC. I'll be cool with that," he said.
Cabagnot backed up his teammate's sentiment after San Miguel's 109-97 Game 3 win, where he scored a game-high 28 points on top of nine rebounds and six assists.
