Serena responds to McEnroe comments on Twitter
Serena Williams may be off the tour for the remainder the season as she prepares to give birth to her first child, but the 23-time Grand Slam champion took time to respond to comments made by seven-time major winner John McEnroe.
McEnroe, a fellow former World No.1 and longtime commentator, was doing an interview with National Public Radio on Sunday when he posited that Williams would be ranked no higher than No.700 were she playing on the ATP World Tour.
"On a given day Serena could beat some players," he said. "I believe because she’s so incredibly strong mentally that she could overcome some situations where players would choke because she’s been in it so many times, so many situations at Wimbledon, the US Open etc. But if she had to just play the circuit — the men’s circuit — that would be an entirely different story."
Serena made the following response on Twitter the next day:

Dear John, I adore and respect you but please please keep me out of your statements that are not factually based.— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) June 26, 2017
Williams last played in January where, despite finding out about her pregnancy two days before the tournament, she won her seventh Australian Open title and broke the Open Era record for most major singles trophies.I've never played anyone ranked "there" nor do I have time. Respect me and my privacy as I'm trying to have a baby. Good day sir— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) June 26, 2017
