Pocari reassigns Abella, appoints De Guzman as head coach
MANILA, Philippines – After winning the championship in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, Pocari Sweat has decided to shuffle its coaching staff.
Pocari Sweat's new team manager, Atty. Ken Mirasol, announced Wednesday that Rico de Guzman – the former head coach of the Army Lady Troopers – will be calling the shots for the Lady Warriors starting in the Open Conference.
De Guzman has been a part of Pocari's coaching staff for the past two PVL conferences, and previously won two V-League titles with Army.
Rommel Abella, who guided the Lady Warriors to three titles, will now be the team's director for player development.
Meanwhile, Pocari Sweat promoted Babes Castillo to the role of lead assistant, just days after he was officially named the new head coach of the National University Lady Bulldogs.
Pocari is also looking to bring back Parley Tupas to its coaching staff, according to Mirasol.
