Mayweather taking a page out of WWE book by accepting McGregor fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. came out of retirement because he plans to cash in on the shock-entertainment value of fighting Conor McGregor, according to a local fight analyst.

Dennis Principe said Mayweather is taking a page out of the WWE playbook, when he accepted to tussle with an equally controversial McGregor.

“(Mayweather) knows maraming sumusubaybay sa kanya and for him to agree to this fight, pinag-aralan niya iyan. Alam niyang may gusto ng laban na ito,” Principe said.

Most boxing purists have labelled the clash between the two as a circus, but Principe said that might be the reason why the match looks intriguing in the first place.

“Bakit ba iyong WWE may sariling pay-per-view, mabenta. Iyong model ng entertainment alam ni Mayweather. He was once involved sa antics ng WWE, so probably he saw first hand iyong pagiging crazy ng tao sa ganung setup na alam nating scripted or rigged,” said Principe, referring to the “No Disqualification” match between Mayweather and Big Show in WrestleMania XXIV back in 2008 where the boxer used a brass knuckle to knockout Big Show.

This doesn’t mean, however, that the August 26 fight will be “staged.”
