Konta cruises on in Nottingham

NOTTINGHAM, England - Top seed Johanna Konta powered on at the Aegon Open, securing a semifinal place by beating Ashleigh Barty in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

"With each match I'm playing, I'm able to get my footing that much surer on the grass," said the British No.1 afterwards. "I'm really looking to just keep competing well, and execute my gameplan as much as I can."

British No.1 Johanna Konta's campaign in Nottingham continues to the semifinals as she dismissed Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.
Barty struggled with her serve in the first set and Konta punished her mistakes with aplomb.

The Australian was resurgent in the second, though, looking much stronger on serve, but again it was the World No.8 who got the decisive break to continue her campaign in Nottingham.

The errors that crept into her game against Yanina Wickmayer were mostly absent as she showed nerve and guile on the grass.

Konta had more success later in the day, pairing up with Wickmayer once more and beating Chan Hao Ching and Casey Dellacqua in the quarterfinals of the doubles, 6-0, 7-6.

Croatia's Donna Vekic also had a straight-sets win, beating Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3; and so did Magdalena Rybarikova, who beat Kristie Ahn 6-4, 6-1.

Lucie Safarova had a harder task, taken to a decider by Tsvetana Pironkova, but eventually triumphed 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.
