Cue artists eye three golds
Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold medalist Rubilen Amit and four other world-ranked local cue artists will lead an 11-man team for the country’s campaign in billiard and snooker competitions in the regional biennial meet set in Kuala Lumpur starting August 19.
Robert Mananquil, secretary-general of the local billiard and snooker federation on Tuesday said , Amit will be playing her favorite 9-ball singles event (women’s). She is the defending titlist. Amit will also be partnering with Cheska Centeno in the doubles event.
Centeno was runner-up to Amit in the 9-ball singles in the last stage of the meet.
Four world ranked Filipino cue masters — Carlos Biado. Warren Qiano,Johann Chua and Dennis Orcullo are all out to give their best and try to improve the country’s lone gold medal output in the last edition(2015) of the regional sports conclave.
Biado and Chua, ranked No. 10 and No. 32 in the world,respectively, will see action in the 9- ball singles event. Qiano and Orcullo, world ranked 21 and 25,respectively, will be playing in the doubles event.
Veteran and former world titlist Efren “Bata” Reyes Warren Kiamco and Efren de la Cruz will serve as all-around players in the singles and doubles event (billiard).
In snooker, Jeffrey Roda and Basil Al Shajjar (Kuwaiti-Filipino) will match skills in the singles event while Alvin Barbero and Roda in doubles. (Primo P. Agatep/PNA)
