Akari, Hapee join PVL for Open Conference

MANILA, Philippines – Akari and Hapee Toothpaste have signed up for the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), making it an eight-team cast for the Open Conference that begins on July 1 at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Akari is linking up with Adamson University, while Hapee will be backstopped by players from the University of the Philippines (UP).

Adamson coach Airess Padda, shown in this file photo, will call the shots for Akari in the PVL Open Conference. Arvin Lim, ABS-CBN Sports
Jema Galanza, who played for Creamline in the Reinforced Conference, and Adamson coach Airess Padda will spearhead Akari's charge, while UP stars Isa Molde and Tots Carlos will join coach Jerry Yee in the Hapee side.

Hapee and Akari slug it out with the league's mainstays in Pocari Sweat, Creamline, Air Force, Perlas, Bali Pure, and the Power Smashers.

Pocari Sweat is once again the team to beat in the Open Conference, as the Lady Warriors are gunning for a fourth championship in as many stints in the league.

Meanwhile, it was announced Wednesday that the PVL will no longer allow players with Alien Certificate of Residence (ACR) to play in the Open Conference, thus blocking the stints of Perlas' Amy Ahomiro and Thailand's Pacharee Sangmuang.
